Level II Internal Chimney Inspection is Required

As per the NFPA 211, A Level II Internal Chimney inspection is required upon the sale or transfer of a property.

The average cost to re-line a Fireplace usually ranges from $3000.00 to $5000.00 or more. If the heating flue also needs to be re-lined, add another $2000.00 to $3000.00 to the estimate!

Most structures with older Terra-Cotta type flues will fail a Level II Internal chimney inspection due to significant mortar decay, tile separation, holes, damage and/or significant cracking. All of these can represent a potential fire hazard.

Additional Info

A Level 2 Chimney inspection is required when any changes are made to the system. Changes can include a changes in the fuel type, changes to the shape of, or material in, the flue (I.E. Relining), or the replacement or addition of an appliance of a dissimilar type, input rating or efficiency.
